April 10, 2009 update

Dear Friend and Neighbor,                               Si prefiere español, avísanos!

Happy Easter and spring break if you get one!  We heard from nearly 500
concerned residents who responded to our annual Spring Maintenance Survey
or attended our community meeting last month at St. Adalbert School. Thank you
for your involvement! It is great to have so many neighbors engaged in the work
of making our community a better place!

Here is what is happening with the concerns you communicated to us:

Potholes (170 locations reported): The Department of Public Works (DPW) expects
to have corrected by April 10 all potholes on the street that we reported to them
through April 2.  Alleys are expected to be patched by end of April.  Call DPW at
286-8282 for new potholes or if you have not yet reported them; if you reported
an issue to us and it was not resolved, please call us at 672-8090!

Street lights not working, traffic signs damaged (42 locations reported): Those
reported to us have been corrected; to report new locations, call DPW directly at
286-8282.

Leaves at curb – (85 locations):  DPW has removed all piles we reported except
where cars continue to block access.  DPW will have crews collecting leaves that
are in the street in piles through April 17.  Half the piles residents reported to us
could not be found; if you reported leaves to us and they were not picked up,
please verify location with us or call DPW directly at 286-8282.

Graffiti ( 55 locations reported):  Report graffiti on your property to Police, 933-
4444.  Squads are placed where crime is reported, and should any offender be
caught, your case may also be solved.  Call the Graffiti Hotline 286-8715 only if you
want to report graffiti on public property or if you want your neighbor to be
ordered to remove graffiti within 3 days.

Exterior repairs needed (196 locations reported):  Please find attached here a list
of housing programs for which you may be eligible.  If none of the housing
resource programs listed are able to help you with the repairs needed for your
home, please let us know by returning the short survey at the bottom of that list,
or call us at 672-8090 to discuss.

Nuisance property on my block (52 locations reported): Phoua Vang, our
Community Prosecution Coordinator should be in contact with you within the next
week to discuss the nuisance issues on your block, or please feel free to call her,
672-8090.

Neighborhood Clean up in your area (58 volunteers reported):  We are putting
together a schedule of cleanups and sponsors and will be in touch with you soon!

Community Development Priorities: Please call to request our survey about your
priorities for federal community development funding (about $25 Million a year) if
you did not get a chance to complete at the meeting.

As always, please call if you have any questions, comments or concerns.  We are
only as good as the input we receive!
